A few issues from Chinook City Council meetings past came up at Wednesday night’s meeting, with a whole spectrum of reactions.
The ordinance about making large metal storage containers on property in Chinook temporary made progress, passing unanimously.
Starting in the second week of January, these containers will only be allowed in yards for 30 days. Then they must either be removed, or the owner must ask the city for an extension.
Storage containers that are already in yards will be allowed without the limit.
The Community Transportation Enhancement Program funds which the city had discussed using to fix downtown sidewalks was pushed back.
Pam Lemer, from Bear Paw Development Corp., said that Chinook’s proposal was sent to the State Department of Transportation, but the state said that the estimate provided was far too low, and omitted engineering fees. The project they thought would be less than $60,000 now appears to cost about $114,000.
In regard to the placement of sidewalk fixes, Lemer said that if the state thought they were avoiding doing corners to avoid adding accessibility ramps, they would deny the whole project.
The council is going to meet in the next month to re-prioritize what the project should be.
Other issues, like changing the Fire Department regulations, were put on hold, awaiting new information or for all relevant people to be present.
