BOZEMAN (AP) — The Gallatin County sheriff's office says a police standoff ended when authorities decided they didn't have enough information to make an arrest and they left the house they had surrounded for hours.
Three Forks Police Chief Troy Burdick says officers chased a man who fled an attempted traffic stop Monday afternoon. Burdick says the man made it inside his home near Three Forks when sheriff's authorities took over.
The sheriff's office said in a news release Tuesday that the standoff lasted until 11 p.m. Monday. Authorities then decided there was not enough information to make an arrest and departed after telling the man inside they were leaving.
The sheriff's office says initial information indicated an unstable and fluid event. Sheriff Jim Cashell did not return calls for details.
