William D. Vosen (Bill), 87, died at his home south of Havre on Dec. 14, 2010. His prayer vigil rosary will be 7 p. m., Monday at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. with his funeral Mass at 10 a. m. Tuesday, Dec, 21, 2010, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, with Father Dale Yurkovic officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.
William D. (Bill) Vosen, 87, died at his home south of Havre on Dec. 14, 2010. He was born in Havre on Oct. 23, 1923, to Sifrin and Mayme (Casey) Vosen of Kremlin. Bill grew up on the family farm south of Kremlin and graduated from Kremlin High School in 1941. He also graduated from Helena Aeronautics School.
Bill worked in the shipyards in southern California as a welder before enlisting in the Army. While in the Army, he received the Expert Marksman award. In 1948 he married Mary E. (Betty) Crowe of Havre. They had six children. They worked in Havre, Bill as a mechanic and Betty at a bank. Eventually they built up their own farm by breaking land from sod to rent. In addition, they purchased pasture land to break into farm land. He also started his own business, Vosen Garage, adjacent to their home in Kremlin. One of his favorite pastimes was to soup up his vehicles and equipment. This ranged from race cars to tractors.
Bill enjoyed the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. Bill also had a passion for flying. He would fly his friends to remote areas to fish and hunt. He especially enjoyed flying his plane into Canada for fishing trips.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother; father; brother, Jack; and sister, Margaret. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; daughters, Marci Bergren of Havre, Teresa (Dave) Dube of Helena, Debbie Smith of Polson and Sandi Vosen of Madera Calif. ; sons, Joe (Ginny) Vosen of Great Falls and Jim (Gloria) Vosen of Havre; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
