Raymond Otto Vogel, 91, died Dec. 30, 2010, at the Big Sandy Medical Center, of natural causes. Ray’s funeral service will be 11 a. m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havre, with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home is entrusted with services. A church luncheon will follow immediately after the graveside services.
Raymond was born June 24, 1919, on the farm homestead northeast of Kremlin to Otto and Mollie (Sauter) Vogel. Ray was the second oldest of four boys. Ray worked on the family farm, neighboring farms, the Fresno Dam, as a mechanic in Lodge Grass and Minneapolis, Minn., and for the Civilian Conservation Corps on the Al-Can Highway in the 1940s.
Ray mostly enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He had a passion for flying his 170 Cessna and working for the Lutheran Church in various capacities. He served on the Kremlin school board, he belonged to the Montana Pioneer and Classic Auto Club, Toastmasters, the Montana Pilots Association and he served on the Havre City-County Airport Board for 25 years.
Ray married Elnora (Krieger) Vogel of Lodge Grass, Mont., in July 1941. Elnora died in January 1975. In 1979 Ray married Freda (Koble) Vogel. After 27 years of marriage, Freda died of natural causes in 2006.
His son, Randolph Vogel of Townsend, and his son in-law, Roger Larson of Kremlin survive Ray. Also surviving Ray are his six grandchildren, Max (Tara) Vogel, Christine (Shad) Huston, and Roger (Stephanie) Larson Jr., all of Havre, Mont., Rod (Theresa) Vogel of Bayfield, Colo., Ryndee (Pete) Hamilton of St. Ignatius, and Carrie (Destry) Berst of Laurel; his brother, Samuel Vogel of Havre; and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mollie Vogel; daughter, Fern (Vogel) Larson; daughter-in-law, Elaine (Knudsvig) Vogel; and brothers Edmund and Phillip Vogel.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Havre Senior Center or a charity of one’s choice.
