Montana Actors’ Theatre is set to run another production, a sequel to a British comedy the local amateur acting troupe recently produced.
“Caught in the Net, ” a 2001 play by Ray Cooney, premieres at 8 p. m. Friday at the Little Theatre in Cowan Hall at Montana State University-Northern.
MAT produced the first of the two, Cooney’s 1982 “Run for Your Wife, ” in 2009.
The play, directed by Pam Veis, is set for a three-week run, including a special showing Monday for Valentine’s Day.
Many from the original cast of the 2009 production are returning to act in this year’s show, with a couple of additions for the new characters.
“Run for Your Wife” told the story of a British cabdriver, John Smith, who had two wives — without either knowing about the other. The action of the play escalates as he comes closer and closer to having his dual existence discovered.
The sequel picks up years later — with a new technological wrinkle. His son from one marriage and his daughter from the other have met via the Internet, and want to meet in person — especially because they have so much in common.
Mike Palmer returns to the production as Smith. He is joined by returning cast members Andi Daniel and Kristi Doll, playing his wives, and Michael Sloan playing his boarder, Stanley.
New cast members are Martin Holt, playing Stanley’s father, and Haley Lippy and Carson Pollington, playing Smith’s children.
This week’s productions will be held Friday and Saturday as well as Monday, and Feb. 17-19 and 24-26.
The doors and the backstage bar open at 7:30 p. m. with the curtain set to rise at 8 p. m. for each production.
Tickets are $15 for adults, students and seniors $10 and Northern students gain free admission with a valid student identification card.
