If the Havre High wrestling team is going to win an unprecedented fifth straight state championship, the Blue Ponies have some work to do, and will also need some help from their friends. At the end of one of the most hotly-contested day one's in recent Class A history, the Ponies sit in third place with 98 points and six wrestlers in Saturday morning's semifinal round. Havre trails first-place Corvallis, which racked up 109 points on Friday at the Butte Civic Center. The Blue Devils are in the drivers seat to capture their first Class A state title, but Belgrade sits one half point ahead of the Ponies, while Laurel trails Havre by just one point.

The Ponies will send six wrestlers into Saturday's semifinals in Gilbert Bara (112), Duell Stadel (119), Dillon Seely (135), Eli Hinebauch (145), Kameron Pribyl (152) and Casey Schaub (171). In all, Havre has 11 of its 17 wrestlers left going into day two, with Zack Smith (130), Grant Pattison (160), Jared Ruttkofsky (189), Josh Salapich (215) and Tyler Adams (HWT) all having a chance to place and score more points.

The second day of the Class A state tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. and concludes with the finals at 4 p.m. at the Butte Civic Center.
