U. S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., said during a press conference Thursday that, although the 2012 campaign is under way, it has a long way to go, and that he believes the campaign for his election should stick to the issues.
“I hope it doesn’t get nasty, ” Tester said in response to a question during his monthly press conference with Montana reporters.
He said his goal is to keep the campaign focused on what he and his opponent, Montana’s Republican U. S. Rep. Denny Rehberg, believe is best for the state and the nation, and comparing their records.
“I don’t think anybody wants it (to get nasty), including the candidates, ” he said.
“Obviously the campaign started, and it probably started four-and-a-half years ago, ” he added.
