Havre Firefighters try to extinguish flames in the top floor of 406 6th Street during a multi-house fire this evening, which started around 5:15.

Just after 5:15 p.m. Monday a large, multi-house fire was reported on 6th Street, between 4th and 5th Avenues.

The fire started behind the house at 406 6th Street, moved between the house and the fence, then on to the house next door at 603 4th Avenue.

Firefighters were still fighting flames more than an hour later, using a chainsaw to get in through the roof and extinguishing flames still coming out of the back of the first house.

The house had just been bought by Kaydee Carnahan and Kortez Franks, who were beginning to remodel the building, according to their friend Christy Kolczak.

While neither were in the building at the time, both were seen watching the charred remains of their home from the alleyway between 4th and 5th Avenues.

"I've got nothing but this," Carnahan said gesturing to the clothes on her back. "I lost everything."
