Mouat staying at MSU-N

Veteran Montana State University-Northern women's basketball coach Chris Mouat will still be on the Skylights' bench this coming winter.

Mouat was one of four finalists for the vacant Carroll College women's job, but Carroll announced Tuesday night that Weber State top assistant Rachel Sayers has been hired for job.

Sayers will become the first female to lead the Fighting Saints. She is a Montana native and a former Weber State player, as well as an assistant coach for the last 13 years.

Sayers replaces head coach Shawn Nelson, who left this spring to take the head women's job at NCAA Division II Central Washington.

Carroll also announced recently that former Chester/J-I standout Jessica VanDyke has decided to follow Nelson and transfer to Central Washington.

This winter, Mouat will begin his seventh season as the Skylights head coach.

You speak of chancellors and coaches being "put out to pasture." While I agree the chancellor situation has been a joke the last few years I strongly disagree with the coaches on campus. The coaches for Northern have been working very hard to improve their teams and the students they bring to campus.

Hey Geniuses...Mouat is from Helena. It's the only other NAIA job in the nation he would consider. Not to mention it would have almost doubled his annual salary.

Carroll's laughable decision to not hire Coach Mouat has raised plenty of eyebrows around the Frontier Conference. Carroll's AD's incompetence is Northern's gain. Be thankful.

What, "its good for the skylights"??? So now Northern is left with a coach who obviously doesn't want to be here and has an eye toward the door. Oh well, Everyone knows Northern is the place where coaches and chancellors go before they are put out to pasture.

im sorry to see he didnt get the position at carroll so he could ruin there program like he did havre's his first few years here were good because he took over a winning program

I'm glad to see the Coach Mouat is staying in Havre! He does a great job and does things the 'right way'. You can't talk about loyalty because he does nothing but work hard to win and promote the Skylights program. This community is lucky to be able to still have him around. Go Lights!

I am glad that Coach Mouat is sticking around after all! I thought we lost him to Carroll, but luckily we have a good coach leading our Skylights!

We are so very lucky that Coach Mouat is staying in Havre to coach the Skylights. He has been a fantastic addition to the Havre community and while Helena is where he grew up, this is his basketball home. It is rare to have a coach with his experience and dedication!! While I don't blame him for applying, I am thankful he is here and can't wait to see the Skylights in action in the fall. Keep up the good work Coach Mouat!

I do not blame the guy for putting in for it. His hometown is Helena and often times people would like to return to their hometowns. I love the armory gym and its atmosphere in Havre, but no one can argue that carroll has better facilities and probably a larger budget. It is good for the Skylights that a great coach is staying put.
