Prairie Farms Golf Course is by no means easy. In fact, if one doesn’t hit his driver and irons straight as an arrow, then it can be down-right frustrating. But this past week saw the golfing gods and the fourth green at Prairie Farms give back in the most generous of ways.
There were two hole-in-one’s at Prairie Farms this past week, with Havre’s Jim Kirkpatrick acing the par-3 fourth hole during men’s league action last Tuesday night. Not to be outdone, another Havre resident, Scott Stockdill recorded his first-career hole-in-one on Sunday during the Rotary Blast tournament. Stockdill aced the par-3, 13th hole with a five-wood from 192 yards away. Witnessing the magic was yours truly, as well as Steve Steinmetz and Stockdill’s playing partner for the Rotary Blast, Brian Jenkins.
It’s also worth noting that just before the amazing golf shot, Stockdill switched to a Nike Montana State University Bobcat logo ball just to get under a certain Griz fan’s skin. I guess the sun still does shine on a Bobcat fan’s, uh, golf game every once in a while.
But in all seriousness, an ace is never a small feat, and both Kirkpatrick and Stockdill recorded theirs in competitive rounds of golf. So congratulations to both for reaching one of the game’s rarest milestones.
Speaking of the Rotary Club, it was a very busy week at Prairie Farms. During the past week it has hosted the Rotary Club Youth Golf Camp, and the Rotary Blast.
The Rotary Golf Camp has been very popular with youth golfers, and this year, 39 kids showed up to participate, have fun and get quality golf instruction.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Rotary Blast tournament featured over 40 2-person teams. The event was an 18-hole, modified stableford scoring tournament, and the tandem of Bruce Normandy and Chad Edgar took this year’s title with a score of plus 21. Congrats to Bruce and Chad, and also, from the entire golfing community, a special thanks goes out to the hard work of Doug Sheppard and Jim Kato, as well as Barry Zanto, Jim Wirt, all the volunteers, the entire Rotary Club and the entire Prairie Farms staff for making it another great week of golf for kids and adults alike.
Meanwhile, this past week in men’s league action at Prairie Farms last Tuesday saw Patrick Construction earn high-team honors with 22 points. Chase Hillman shot an even-par 36 for low gross and Steve Brown was low net with a 29.5.
Last Wednesday night in men's league, Havre Elk's Club earned high team with 23.5 points. Hillman and Trent Normandy both earned low gross after shooting rounds of 1-under 35 and Al Beaute was low net with a 30.
In ladies league action last Thursday night, Golden Spike scored 22.5 points to earn high-team honors for the night. The team is composed of Ali Ward, Stacy Baldwin, Tammy Walters and Jamie Young. Low gross for the night went to Ali Ward who fired a solid round of 40. Low net was shared by Kim Klein and Mary Ann MacLean with a 31.
Men's league is also up and running again at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Last Thursday saw Waddell and Reed score high-team honors, while Tom Haas was low gross and Lowell Swenson was low net. the BCGC men's league is now through 10 weeks of its season.
