Another Havre sports team was named champions over the weekend, but this time the action came in girls B-League softball.

The Havre Girls Fastpitch B-League tournament ran on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday the champion was crowned. At the end of the weekend the tournament came down to the Lions and the Railroad Pagers. In the championship game the Lions defeated the Pagers 12-7 to force a challenge game, and coming away on top once again were the Lions, this time grabbing the 7-1 win.

Lions' Kelsey McLean swipes at a pitch during Sunday night's Havre Girls Fastpitch B-League softball championship game at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. Lions had to beat the Railroad Pagers twice to claim Sunday's championship. For more on the B-League tournament, see Tuesday's Havre Daily News.

To force the challenge game, the Lions came from behind to defeat the Pagers in Sunday’s first game. The Pagers held a 4-3 lead after one inning, but stretched the lead to 5-3 in the second. But the Lions battled back and took an 8-5 lead in the fourth and extended the gap to 12-7 in the fifth.

In the challenge game, the Lions took an early 4-1 lead and looked to be in control of the game from the beginning. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth and found themselves sitting pretty comfortable at 7-1. After another solid inning and earning cushion, the Lions shut down the Pagers in the top of the fifth to end the game early.

On the road to the championship, NorthWestern Energy, Barkus, Chinook, Lions and the Pagers all battled it out.

On Friday, Barkus defeated North Western Energy and Chinook defeated Lions. And on Saturday, The Pagers defeated the Barkus while the Lions defeated North Western Energy in loser-out action. The Pagers also defeated Chinook, while the Lions defeated Barkus in loser out again. On Sunday the Lions earned another win, this time over Chinook, giving them a championship birth to face the Pagers.
