Today is a big day for the Montana State University-Northern football team.

 

    The 2011 Lights report to fall camp this morning, with meetings, team activities and administrative things today, and Saturday.

    Then, the real fun begins for the Lights on Sunday. Northern will hold its first practice of the year on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the MSU-Northern practice fields. The Lights return to Havre looking to grow on a 3-7 2010 campaign. MSU-N returns nine starters on offense and seven starters on defense this season, including starting quarterback Derek Lear, starting running back Stephen Silva, the entire offensive line, as well as all-american defenders Will Andrews and Landry See.

    MSU-N is preparing for its season-opening game, Sept. 3 against the UM-Western Bulldogs in Havre. The Lights will begin two-a-day practices on Monday with practices scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. through Thursday. The Lights will also practice twice on Friday, ahead of their first scheduled scrimmage, which is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday.

    Northern also has a preseason scrimmage set for Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Other events for fall camp include the MSU-Northern Meet and Great Aug. 31 at the Holiday Village Mall.

    The Lights first four games of the season feature home dates against Western and Eastern Oregon on Sept. 17, as well as road trips to Montana Tech on Sept. 10 and Rocky Mountain College on Sept. 24.
