Grimson is nearing the end of his fourth year as an HHS football player, and his second year as a starter. And with the end of the regular season just one game away and with the conference title on the line, Grimson’s performance had paid dividends for HHS.
Four games this season have really showed what Grimson is capable of. Facing Whitefish, he caught four passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Against Butte Central, Grimson topped that and caught three passes for 94 yards and a score. But Grimson also racked up 115 yards on six catches and two touchdowns against Sidney, and put up 54 more yards on six catches, as well as a score against Belgrade.
Grimson is also a force from the safety position, and his huge increase in production on offense has really benifited the Ponies this season. Grimson was honorable mention Central All-Conference last season as a safety.
The HHS tennis team and Havre Ice Hawks also benefit from Grimson’s athleticism. He has earned All Conference honors twice in tennis and even managed a No. 6 finish at the state tournament his sophomore year.
Now Grimson will try and help his football team to the playoffs and beyond.
Here's five questions with one of Havre High's many productive two-way football players as senior night approaches.
HDN: What has the team done this season to find this consistency and ability to win, especially in this four-game win streak?
Grimson: “I think when we start running our no huddle offense it really catches teams off balance. It is really a high tempo offense and benefits us. And our defense, we really started to buckle down and know where our fits and alignments are.”
HDN: What do the Ponies have to do to beat Livingston this weekend?
Grimson: “We just have to play how we play. We have been playing a new defense so we just have to understand what we are doing there, and on offense, we have to take care of the ball.”
HDN: Which side of the ball do you prefer to play on, offense or defense?
Grimson: “Defense. I like to hit people and you get to pick the ball off.”
HDN: What has been your most memorable game this season?
Grimson: “Probably just the way we all played against Belgrade. That was when we all started to get things together and it put us on this win streak. And I think we really played harder because it was against a conference opponent and we really wanted to earn a No. 1 seed at the end of the season with a conference title.”
HDN: What would it mean for you and the team to win a conference title this season?
Grimson: “It would mean a lot because it would give us a week to prepare for whoever we end up playing in the second round. And it would feel good (being a senior) because we haven’t been able to win the conference and we have a really good shot this year.”
