Update, 11-5, 3 p.m.: The Havre High volleyball team came up just short in its bid to make the Class A state tournament. Saturday afternoon at the Havre High gymnasium, the Ponies fell to the Lewistown Golden Eagles by scores of 25-18, 26-16 and 25-23 in the third-place match at the Central A Divisional Tournament. The Ponies had to play the eagles for the right to go to the championship match because Lewistown was upset by Belgrade in the semifinal Saturday morning.

Update: The Havre High volleyball team won two loser-out matches Friday evening to stay alive at the Central A Divisional volleyball tournament at the HHS gymnasium. First, the Ponies beat a tough Browning team in four games to advance in the loser-out bracket. Then HHS captured a dramatic four-set win over Livingston to move into Saturday's third-place match, as well as keep its hopes of reaching the state tournament alive. Havre beat the Rangers by scores of 25-17, 23-25, 26-24 and 25-22 late Friday night. The win was the Ponies' first over the Rangers this season and it sets up a 1 p.m. match with either Belgrade or Lewistown. The winner of the 1 p.m. match will move into Saturday's Central A title tilt.

In the opening round of the Central A Volleyball Tournament, the Havre Blue Ponies were defeated by the Belgrade Panthers in four games. The Ponies fell behind 2-0 before rallying to win the third set and build a solid lead in the fourth. However, Belgrader surged ahead and won in four. In the other first-round match Friday morning, the Livingston Rangers beat the Browning Indians in three sets.

 

Havre will next face Browning in a loser-out match tonight at 5 p.m. at the HHS gymnasium.
