The MSU-Northern women's basketball team tried to bounce back from Friday night's controversial loss to Montana Tech. The UM-Western Bulldogs wouldn't let it happen however. The Bulldogs ri9pped off runs of 15-6 and 16-2 in the second half to blow by the reeling Skylights, 80-68 in a Frontier Conference lash Saturday night in Havre.

In a fast-paced first half, the Skylights led 41-36 at intermission. But Northern shot just 29 percent in the final 20 minutes, while the bulldogs also forced MSU-N into 14 second-half turnovers. Western's 6-3 center Hayley Pettit also took over the game in the second, scoring 15 of her game-high 21 points.

Northern, which did go 6-for-12 from three, got 18 points from a hobbled Laramie Schwenke, while Jordan Bruursema added 14 points and Nikki Tresch scored 10. Micah Kirkipatrick gave MSU-N a big boost, scoring 11 points, including three first-half triples. Kelly Millager had a season-high 10 rebounds.

The loss was Northern's second straight, dropping the Skylights to 1-2 in conference play but 14-3 overall. MSU-N goes back on the road to face Carroll College Thursday night and Rocky Mountain College Saturday night.
