The MSU-Northern womne's basketball team pulled off a huge upset Friday night in Havre. One night later, the Westminster Griffins weren't about to let the same thing happen twice. The No. 20 Griffins rode a 22-point effort from junior Nicole Yazzie to a 56-39 win over the Skylights Saturday night at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse.

Yazzie scored 12 of Westminster's first 15 points, and the Griffins jumped out to 15-4 lead. Northern fought hard to stay close, but found itself struggling on offense and down 27-18 at halftime. The Skylights, who shot 37 percent for the game, fought hard to stay in it in the second half, twice coming within five points of Westminster. But the Griffins answered both times. Jordan Bruursema made five straight points and the Skylights were down 36-31 with 13 minutes to go, only to see Yazzie hit a three. Then, down 11, Northern fought back again and found itself trailing 44-39 with five minutes to play, but the Skylights never scored again as Westminster closed on an 11-0 run.

Bruursema racked up a doubhle-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Laramie Schwenke chipped in with 11 and Kylee Denham added eight. Amy Krommenbrook came off th ebench to give Westminster (6-1, 15-7) and additional 10 points.

With the weekend split, the Skylights are 3-4 in the Frontier Conference and tied for third place. Northern, which travels to rival UGF next Saturday, is 16-5 overall.
