District basketball tournaments were in full swing over the weekend, but for the most part, local Hi-Line teams didn’t fair too well.
In 1B action, the Rocky Boy Stars were attempting to overcome their regular season ups and downs, but went 0-2 over the weekend, ending their season. And in 2B action, the Harlem Wildcats found the same results, also going 0-2. The However, the 10C Chester/J-I Hawks had better results. The Hawks went 2-1 over the weekend, earned the No. 3 spot, and faced Dutton-Brady Monday night in the challenge game. And though they made the challenge game, Dutton Brady defeated the Hawks 50-33.
The Stars had their share of struggles this season, and just couldn’t get over the hump come post season.
In the first round of the 1B, the Cut Bank Wolves handed the Stars a tough 62-58 loss. Scott Bradley led the Stars with 16 points, while Dusty Standing Rock kicked in 14. And in the consolation bracket, the struggles continued for the Stars, as they fell 48-39 to the Conrad Cowboys. This time Bubby Gopher led the Stars with nine points
In the 2B tournament, the Wildcats had similar struggles as they too had trouble getting their offense started.
In round one, Glasgow defeated the Wildcats 53-45, and in the consolation bracket Wolf Point defeated the Wildcats 80-50. Facing Glasgow, Lawrence led Harlem with 15 points, while Skylar Speak Thunder added 14. And facing Glasgow, Speakthunder led the way with 17 points, while Bud Buck added 10.
The 10C Hawks had a busy weekend.
In the first round they defeated Sunburst 50-42, before suffering a 60-37 loss to Power in the championship semifinals. The Hawks rebounded nicely and kept their season alive. In the consolation game, the Hawks defeated Valier 53-35 and opened the door a 10C challenge game Monday night, where the Hawks suffered the tough, season ending loss.
Several Hawks had decent weekends. Jeff Wanken and Mike Henke had a good outing against Sunburst, as Henke posted 15 points, while Wanken posted 14. And against Power, Lane harmon led with 12 points, while Klayton Lohr added 11. And against Valier, Harmon led again with 14, while Wanken added a solid 10 points.
The Hawks, Stars and Wildcats had decent season, but just couldn’t things going at the right time. They all had good wins, as well as tough losses, but will also all end their seasons earlier than planned.
