The Havre High girls softball team came within a 50-50 chance, a coin toss of reaching the Class A state tournament this spring. That one didn’t go in the Blue Ponies’ favor, but several HHS players received high honors at season’s end.
On Wednesday, the Central A released its all-conference list for the 2012 season and five Blue Ponies were touted.
HHS didn’t have any players make First-Team All-Central or Class A All State, but senior Michaela Boles and junior Davee McLeod earned second-team honors. Boles played center field for much of the season for the Ponies and had one of the highest batting averages, as well as a stellar on-base percentage. McLeod was HHS’s top pitcher, leading hitter and also played both third base and shortstop.
The Ponies also had three young players earn honorable mention honors.
Freshman Morgan Mazurkiewicz made the list. She came on strong in the second half of the season and was one of the Ponies’ top hitters down the stretch. Also earning honorable mention were rising starts Paige Henderson and Harlee Boucher.
Belgrade had the most players named with eight, including six first-teamer’s and four who were honored for Class A All State. Lewistown also had eight players honored, while Livingston had five and Browning three.
The HHS softball and tennis teams will celebrate their season tonight, as both teams hold their annual awards banquet at 5:30 p.m. at Havre High School.
