Laurel — North Star High School girls track team won the Montana Class C championships over the week, and the towns that dot the Hi-Line are still celebrating. Congratulations to the team and to the folks who prepared the parade that allowed the community to join in the celebration Thursday night. Everyone showed tremendous community support.
Laurel — Have you every found yourself urging visitors to stop by one of Havre's historical attractions and then realized its been years — if ever — since you visited the attractions? Saturday is the day to solve that problem. It is Living History day in Havre. The Buffalo Jump, Havre Beneath the Street and Fort Assinniboine will be open for special tours and will display special exhibits. This is a great opportunity to see what these attractions have to offer.
Laurel — The Havre Food Bank is always a hand-to-mouth operation. It seems the staff always has just enough money to get along. The need is always greater than the cash at hand. Food comes in the back door and out the front door. For years, HRDC has done a great job of making do with very little money. They have been headquartered in a building that needs a lot of work. That's why it was great to read that Walmart is donating $50,000 for an addition to the North Havre building. The food bank has long needed the extra space. Not it will get it.
Dart — It didn't take long, but we've already heard that some political lawn signs have been stolen and/or trashed. Displaying lawn signs is a part of America's political tradition. It's a great way to use First Amendment rights. We hope the thefts have been done by some knuckle-headed vandals, and not by people of the opposing political party. But whoever is responsible is deserving of disdain.
