Sage Ferguson of Box Elder will spend nearly three years in federal prison for a car crash Aug. 28 that resulted in paralyzing a passenger in the vehicle from the waist down.
U. S. District Judge Sam Haddon sentenced Ferguson, 18, in federal court in Great Falls Monday to 33 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the U. S. Attorney for Montana said in a press release.
Ferguson previously pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious injury.
According to the release, Ferguson crashed the vehicle the passenger was in while driving on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. The specific location of the crash was not listed in the release.
A witness was prepared to testify in a trial that Ferguson had been driving recklessly before the crash, specifically that he was “fishtailing” and had been urged not to drive because of his intoxicated state.
