The Havre Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-star team continued a successful summer run by finishing second at the prestigious Firecracker Babe Ruth Tournament last weekend in Kalispell.
The Havre team won four games in a row in Kalispell before losing to the host K
alispell All Stars in the championship game last Sunday afternoon.
Havre opened with a win on June 29 against Lethbridge, winning by a score of 8-5. In the opening game, Dylan Carpenter pitched a complete-game win, while Travis Roth, Parker Filius and Jeff Miller all went 2-for-4 at the plate.
On June 30, the Havre team beat Kalispell 11-4 and Bitterroot 10-8. Against Kalispell, Charlie Christianson pitched the complete-game victory for Havre, while Gavin Gunderson went 3-for-3 and Roth went 2-for-3. In the narrow win over Bitterroot, Gunderson got the win, pitching all six innings, while Miller and Dane Avilla each went 2-for-3 and Ryne Antley was 3-for-4.
Havre then moved into bracket play and again took down the Bitterroot All Stars, this time by a score of 10-9. In dramatic fashion, Havre erased an 8-2 deficit in the final two innings for a come-from-behind victory. Christianson, Filius and Carpenter all pitched for the Havre squad, while Roth, Miller and T.C. Flesche all had two hits in the win, which put Havre into the championship game.
In the final game of the tournament, Havre was beaten by Kalispell in a rematch, 9-4. Carpenter and Filius pitched for Havre, while Roth had two hits, Filius, Antley, Christianson and Gunderson all each had one hit in the loss. The loss to Kalispell is Havre’s only loss so far this season.
The Havre All-Stars will return to Kalispell for the Babe Ruth 15-year-old state tournament later this month. The team will play two games against Conrad next Friday night at Legion Field, and also play two more against Conrad next Sunday in Conrad.
