Incoming Havre High freshman Jeff Miller competed at the most prestigious junior tennis tournament of the Montana summer circuit this past weekend and did quite well in the process.
Miller finished third in the Boy's 14 singles division at the Montana State Junior Open which was held Thursday-Sunday in Missoula. Miller defeated Bozeman's Jackson Pederson in the consolation match of the bracket. Miller, who also competes in golf, basketball and baseball, came into the tournament ranked No. 7 in that age group in the Montana Tennis Association's July Intermountain rankings and was unseeded. He lost just one match in the 14's division, to No. 1 seed Marcos Zelver, also of Bozeman.
Miller also competed in the Boy's 16 singles, winning once and losing twice. He's currently ranked No. 27 in 16's. He also competed in boy's 18 doubles with former Blue Pony Blaine Grisak, while Grisak also played two matches in the Boy's 18 singles division.
