Buffalo Court, a housing development for low-income senior citizens, will soon open on Havre's far south side.

District 4 Human Resources Development Council is responsible for the project, which will fill a big need in our community.

As baby boomers age, there will be need for more housing for older people, and the existing supply in Havre doesn't seem to fill the need.

Already 40 people have applied for the 20 apartments, though there is no indication that all 40 are eligible for the program.

The aging process has taken its toll on many senior citizens, and they find themselves in a difficult position, not able to pay for medical bills, food and housing.

The Buffalo Court complex will ensure that at least some low-income seniors will have clean, safe living quarters in a community setting. They will be able to spend their time in their hometown. The project shows that Havre is committed to helping senior citizens enjoy their retirement years. It was built under a public-private partnership that will ensure that the buildings be kept in good shape for years to come.

Congratulations and thanks to HRDC and all who helped out in the five-year process to build the apartments.
