On Aug. 8, the people of Havre showed their support for Havre's first National Night Out held at Montana State University-Northern's Student Union Building. The event was very successful in promoting crime prevention and drug awareness with the help of many individuals. The highlight of the event was the landing of the U.S. Border Patrol's Black Hawk helicopter which was facilitated by Border Patrol Agent Daniel Bryant and crew Keefe Huffman, Nate Young and Justin Nestorik.
The Eagles, Eagles Aerie, Rotary Club and Kiwanis provided monetary donations that were used to host a barbecue with the donation of $589.75 for the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line. William and Julie Kilgore and the crew of Big Willy's BBQ provided the food and serving of the barbecue. The Optimists donated brauts, Culligan provided water and dispensers, ice came from Havre Distributors and Gary & Leo's donated an NNO cake that was served by Brenda Kadrmas.
Many clubs and organizations including Jaycees, Kiwanis, Boys Scouts and the Boys & Girls Club (Rich Jespersen, Amanda Christofferson, Jake Strissel and Mary Owens) provided informational booths for the attendees. Chris Preputin from Custom Collision Repair donated and custom painted the electric guitar that raised $800 for the Crime Stoppers raffle.
Montana State University-Northern Chancellor James Limbaugh provided the campus location with Bill Lanier and Dan Ulmen assisting in facilitation of the campus. Matt Pozega, Jimmy Smith, Nick Peet, and Mary Naber from the city of Havre's Public Works Department supplied picnic tables, garbage cans and street sweeping for the event. Matt Hedstrom from Strumin Entertainment provided the sound system. The Havre Police Department, Havre Fire/EMS, U.S. Border Patrol-Havre sector, Montana Highway Patrol, Hill County Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue and National Guard-Havre Station provided vehicles and personnel for the event. Campaign promotion was donated by New Media Broadcast and the Havre Daily News.
As the planner/organizer of Havre's first National Night Out program, I would like to thank all the individuals mentioned above, the community attendees and anyone I might have missed for making this event a huge success and a challenge to make next year's National Night Out bigger and better.
