Ramsey Drew is one of the top golfers at Havre High, but he's added cross country to a hectic fall sports
Havre Blue Pony senior Ramsey Drew, is primed to have an outstanding season in several different sports this year at Havre High.
And he's certainly been busy.
Drew has been part of the Havre High basketball and golf programs for the last three years. He also has a history in playing baseball, but also added the sport of cross country to his resume this fall. Drew came close to making state last season in golf, but is primed to make a run at state this year, as he has continually been one of the top golfers for HHS this fall, shooting in the mid to high 80’s. But Drew also has a shot at a big time basketball season, coming off of a year with limited varsity minutes in 2011, but also being one of the very few returning seniors.
Now throw in the cross country season for good measure, and Drew has a real shot at being a major contributor in three sports this year. Drew has been bouncing between golf and cross country practices and competitions since the summer, and has found some success doing so. He has been at the top of the boys golf team all season, and with his athleticism, could start to move up the cross country ranks as well.
It is tough for Drew to juggle a variety of schedules, but he has done well so far, and has a lot of potential in his senior year.
Here's five questions with Drew as he gets ready to compete in Saturday's Central A golf tournament in
HDN: It is already tough enough to juggle school and one sport, but what is like playing two sports in one season?
Drew: “My schedule is usually packed. I usually have time to go to both practices, but after that, nothing, I have homework then go to bed. I normally have to get here (cross country practice) and run fast, then get to golf practice in time to get help from coaches. “
HDN: You have consistently been of the top HHS golfers this year, what are your goals moving forward?
Drew: “My goals are to at least stay in the 80’s for divisionls, and then to hopefully go lower. I just want to stay consistent and get to state.”
HDN: Where is your favorite place to golf during the season, and where would you golf if you could pick any course in the world?
Drew: “That is tough. I would probably have to say that Eaglerock would be my favorite course that we play at in Billings. And if I could golf anywhere in the world, I really don’t know that one. I guess anywhere that just had less wind than here, and that is warm so I could golf year round.”
HDN: What interested you in the sport of cross country?
Drew: “I mostly did it so I could stay in shape for basketball. I want to have a really good basketball season and I knew this would help, and I think so far I have been doing pretty good. Cross country is something new, it is challenging, and it is a good sport if you like to compete and don’t mind running a lot.”
HDN: What is your go-to club in your golf bag, besides your putter or driver?
Drew: “It is a tie between my four iron and my eight iron. I can pretty much do anything with them, whether I am in front of a tree, or have to go over a tree. They really can get me out of any situation.”
