This is the third edition of my new column, which chronicles extra tidbits from the weekend’s local sports coverage, but, since I took the weekend off, the title really doesn’t fit since I didn’t actually see anything.

    What I did see was, personally the lowest of lows and the highest of highs in a 24-hour span.

    Originally, Pearl Jam (as many of you know by now I am a crazed fan), drew me to take the weekend off. The band played its only non-festival U.S. show of 2012 on Sunday night in Missoula, and it was pure magic. The concert was in support of Senator Jon Tester and it was a special night indeed. So aside from seeing my favorite band in the world, for the ninth time in my life, and the sixth time in my home state, what else I saw was a great local turnout. Tester is from Big Sandy (like you all didn’t know that already) and before the show, I couldn’t stop bumping into friends, acquaintances and more Hi-Line locals than I see on an average day in Havre.

    The other thing I saw this weekend, I’m really not going to get into. Let’s just say I was in Cheney, Wash., on Saturday night for a football game that didn’t end so well. Enough said.

    But what I really need to do is say a few quick words about what I didn’t see this weekend.

    The MSU-Northern volleyball and football teams had a big weekend I Havre, and as much as I love Pearl Jam and that football team that lost on Saturday night, I have to say I was pretty bummed out that I missed all that happened at home while I was gone.

    The Skylights volleyball team’s win over Lewis-Clark State and Northern’s performance against Rocky Mountain College Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium are both just wow. What a great weekend.

    Congrats to both the Skylights and the Lights for winning two huge games at home, and both of those are things I wish I would have seen.
