With the post eason just days away for the Havre High volleyball team,, the Blue Ponies earning their second conference win of the season could prove to be very important moving forward.
Saturday the Central A Ponies were in Browning, where they completed the season sweep over the Indians. HHS defeated the Indians in three games by scores of 25-9,25-23 and 25-20. Moving forward, the Ponies have just three conference matches left on the season. The Ponies have lost to Belgrade, Livingston and Lewistown already, but could have some good momentum as they finish the final stretch of their season at home.
“Yes, we needed this win,” Havre High head coach Melanie Skoyen said. “Next weekend we will have three very tough games and it is good that we are heading in with a 2-3 conference record.”
And the Ponies won handily on Saturday.
Sarah Armstron led with 17 of the team's 30 kills, while Ellery Bressler racked up 28 of the team's 30 assists. Bressler also had two aces, while Davee McLeod added two aces. Brandy Lambourne had 20 digs and Lacey Waid earned one block.
Bressler filled in for Peyton Filius for the second straight weekend, and Skoyen thought she did an excellent job. Bressler got to the ball very well and had great placement with her passes.
Lambourne also played great from the serve-receive standpoint, as well gave the team a great boost with her talking, positon, and leadership according to coach Skoyen. McLeod’s two aces also came at key times in the match, giving the Ponies momentum and the edge.
“We still didn’t have Peyton Filius,” Skoyen said. “But everybody stepped up. It was a real team effort, everybody was working hard and it showed.”
The final stretch for the Ponies includes games against Livingston, Belgrade and Lewistown. HHS will host Lewistown on Friday, and will host Livingston and Belgrade on Saturday. All three matches will take place at the Havre High gymnasium.
