The Havre High football program had its fair share of battles this past season, and the Blue Ponies rewarded their efforts with another trip to the Class A state football playoffs. But weeks after the conclusion of the 2012 season, a select few are still garnering attention for their efforts.
Central A All-Conference honors have been released, and six well deserving Ponies made the cut.
Senior Thurman Holdsclaw had an amazing season, and captured some top honors. Holdsclaw was named First-Team All-Conference as a tight end, but was also named the conference’s offensive MVP for what he did as a tight end, a slot receiver, a running back, and as the wildcat quarterback. Holdsclaw also earned First-Team honors as a return specialist, and was an Honorable Mention defensive end.
Freshman quarterback Dane Warp was also named First-Team All-Conference, while senior Zach Plum was named First-Team All-Conference as a receiver, one of Warp’s favorite targets. Plum was also named First-Team Defense as one of the top defensive backs in the state. Plum tied and set a number of school records this season, including interceptions in one game with three, interceptions in a season with nine, touchdown receptions in a game with four, and receiving yards in one game with 241 yards. Warp also set and tied his share of offensive records, including TD passes in a game with five (achieved that twice in 2012), completions in a game with a 25-of-33 outing, and passing yards in a game with 438 yards.
Junior Thomas Gruber also earned Second-Team All-Conference as a punter and wide receiver, while Gruber was also named Honorable Mention as a free safety. And to top off a solid season, sophomore Jordan Schroeder was also named a Second-Team All-Conference linebacker, while senior Chet Shrauger was named Honorable Mention as a strong safety.
The Ponies finished the regular season with an overall record of 4-5. It was good enough for the No. 3 seed out of the Central A, and a spot in the state playoffs. Unfortunately the Ponies’ season ended in the first round, as Laurel defeated the Ponies 48-13.
