It had been a long time since the Carroll College Fighting Saints had found a way to beat the Montana State University-Northern Skylights. On Thursday night in Havre, the Saints did just that however. Bailey Snelling's long 3-pointer with 1:23 left lifted the Saints to a 56-50 win over Northern at the Armory Gymnasium in what was the Frontier Conference opener for both teams.
Carroll finished the first half on a 12-2 run and led 28-26 at intermission. And after Snelling's deadly three, the Saints finished the game on a 9-2 run in what was their first win over Northern inthe last seven meetings. In between, MSU-N built a comfortable 21-14 lead in the first half, and the Skylights were ahead seven different times in the second. But missed free throws and a mountain of foul trouble worked against Northern down the stretch, and Carroll took advantage.
Laci Keller paced the Skylights with 12 points, though she was in foul trouble most of the way. Jordan Bruursema added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Nikki tresch scored 10 as well. MSU-N shot just 34 percent from the field and was a dismal 47 percern from the foul ine as the Skylights fell to 3-3 on the season.
Northern, which will re-start conference play in January, has three road games in Oregon next weekend.
