The Havre High boys and girls swim teams are already approaching the Christmas break point of the season – and the Blue Ponies really only got started last Saturday.
But there’s little to worry about because Havre will certainly get plenty of races in before the two-week break from competition.
Today and Saturday, the
Ponies are in Great Falls for a pair of meets at the Great Falls High Pool inside the Swarthout Fieldhouse. Today, the Ponies will dual Great Falls High and CMR, and Saturday HHS will partake in the Great Falls Relays.
The Blue Ponies got their season started last Saturday with the Havre Invitational. The meet was a double-dual against the Bison and Rustlers, so Havre will certainly be familiar with its opponents today, and throughout the weekend.
Last weekend saw the HHS boys get strong performances from the likes of Desmond Fialkosky, Derek Van Dessell, Taylor Rippenburg, as well strong races in several relays. Bryant O’Leary and Ben Siegel also placed in their home pool last weekend.
On the girls side, Leiza Reighard, Larissa Price and Morgan Jappe led the way for the Ponies in the Havre Invite, but youngsters like Hannah Pepprock and Jackie Martin also looked sharp for the first meet of the season.
And with a meet under their belt, the Ponies will look to continue to improve this weekend in Great Falls, before they break for the holidays. After the Christmas break, Havre will re-start its season at home with the all-important Class A Invitational. That meet will pit Havre head-to-head against both Class A rivals, Billings Central and Hardin. So this weekend’s action in Great Falls will be crucial in helping the Ponies prepare for the second half of the season.
Today’s meet in Great Falls will begin at 4 at the Swarthout Fieldhouse. Saturday’s races in the Electric City will get underway at 12 p.m.
