Mrs. Sneecher the teacher looked down at her class, with one word, then two, the following asked; which one of you boys put that thing in there? You know that a flower cant grow in her hair.
The flower it seems, if you never knew, was a daisy no less, on young Maisy McGrue.
the character, that is.
Childrens Librarian Carrie Wilson of the Havre-Hill County Library kept her young audience entertained with Dr. Seuss at story on Wednesday. With wide eyes and enthralled minds, the children took part in the interactive reading by passing a life sized cat-in-the-hat cat to their neighbors. The catch: You can only pass on the word Maisy, which sounds like daisy, crazy, lazy; you get the picture. A cross between Simon says and musical chairs, whoever held the cat in the end, would win a big prize, a gift from a friend.
Besides providing entertainment, the exercise challenged the childrens listening skills. In a nutshell, it was fun.
I like it, Wilson said. Sometimes theres only two kids. Last week there were 70. You never know.
Wilson is no stranger to the tirades of Dr. Seuss obscure characters, either. After all , you dont have to be five to enjoy the stories.
I like the Cat In The Hat the most, she said after the conclusion of Wednesdays story hour, but that one was checked out.
Day care teacher Jody Shay kept the class in check, which was easy once the reading began, mystifying the kids with the riddles and rhymes of Dr. Seuss.
The Cat in the Hat, Curious George, Grover and Big Bird are no strangers to story hour, which takes place at the Havre-Hill County Library every Wednesday morning at 10:15. Admission is free.
What happened to Mrs. Maisy McGrue, you ask?
The secret will stay, but this I can tell, and read you a line, and read it quite well; Thats how it happened, the thing went away, and Maisy McGrue is quite happy today.
