After two weeks off the competitive diamond, the Havre Northstars Legion baseball team jumps back into action with a three day tournament and two double headers on Sunday.
Tonight the Northstars will be in Coleridge, Alberta taking part in a tourney that includes teams from Lethbridge, Calgary and Coleridge. The Stars play their first game tonight at 5 p.m.
Sunday Havre, if successful at the tourney, could be playing in the consolation or championship finals in their Canadian tourney in addition to the two double headers. Coach Mickey Williams said the priority for the team will be the tournament, but he will split his team up, nonetheless. With Lewistown in town for A games at 1 p.m., while the B squad will be in Glasgow.
Williams stated that he will split the the Northstars and Comets so that there are about 10 players in each location. The tourney will feature all A players, the Lewistown game will be half Stars and Comets and the Glasgow contest will be all Comet players.
Josh Lybecker will take the hill for the Stars tonight. Williams said his team is strong down the lineup offensively, but Jake Ingram and Alan Mapes provide most of the punch.
The weather has posed problems for the Havre squads getting in quality practice. The teams have been throwing and hitting in the batting cage, but as far as the game stuff goes we lack some of that time, and that hurts us, Williams said.
