Three Havre High golfers will heft their Blue Pony bags for the last time this weekend and the beginning of next week as the team enters the Central A Divisional and Class A State tournaments.
This is coach Keith Evensons first graduating class, as he took over the program four years ago. All three seniors will be strongly missed, Evenson said. They all set good examples for people.
Havre will bid farewell to Shanda Lammerding, Tiffany Obie and Katie Springer. The three hit on the varsity squad all year, leading a team that won all of its regular season tournaments. Lammerding was also the medalist at many of those events.
Lammerding, who plans taking to the links for Montana State-Northern, said she will miss her teammates once her time with the Ponies runs out.
She says the keys for a successful round is to stay focussed, dont get mad at yourself and keep your head down.
When asked on how she said she would reflect on her time spent with the Havre team 20 years from now she said I will remember all the fun people I met, and how much I fun I had and learned.
She has been the No. 1 golfer for four years, Evenson said. She has all kinds of records in our record book. She is a positive leader. Academically she set the situation for all of our kids, also.
Well see her playing college ball, but there will be a void her. She and I started together, as did Tiffany. We kind of grew up together.
Lammerding plans on majoring in nursing at Northern.
Obie said he greatest accomplishment was improving her total game. She is looking to winning the state tournament for the girls team this post season.
As an experience everyone should have, Obie said is how she will reflect on her experiences with the Havre team, describing it as happiness and fun.
Obies key is to stay focused during my round. Even if I have a terrible hole.
She has worked hard and taken golf seriously, Evenson said. She has really been on of those team members. It is those type of people you need to be a strong team.
Obie will attend Carroll College in the fall and major in business administration and marketing.
Springer said her fondest memory of playing for the Blue Ponies is the bus rides. You get to know everyone really well. You bond, Springer said. The overnighters are awesome.
She tells golfers to keep your head down! in order to have a successful round. Stay clam. If you start to get worried about a bad shot, its going to get 10 times worse. Trust me.
I have greatly improved since I was a freshman, Springer said. I won a JV tournament as a junior.
Ill miss the people, my teammates, she said. These guys mad golf fun, even when you had a bad round.
Golf is not familiar to Katie coming from the farm, but it is very important to her, Evenson said. We appreciate her hard work. If she didnt work hard, she wouldnt be here.
The team is taking part in Central A tourney Saturday in Dillon and then take to the Anaconda Hills course Tuesday and Wednesday for the state tournament.
