Northstars win some, lose some

The Havre Northstars traveled to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, June 11-13, winning one and dropping three in the Class AA tournament.

We played a little tougher competition, said Northstar head coach Mickey Williams. They were all AA teams up there.

The Northstars fell to Lethbridge 8-4 to open the tournament. Nate Baltrusch went 3-for-4 including one double and scored two runs. Alan Mapes and Ricky Brown each batted 3-for-4 and Brown scored two runs and collected an RBI in the loss.

On Saturday, the Stars fell 8-6 with Alan Mapes pitching in the losing effort. Baltrusch stayed hot going 2-for-4 including a double and scoring one run. Brown went 2-for-3 including a double and also scored.

Their third loss came at the hands of St. Albert, the Class AA team from Edmonton, Alberta, who took first at the tournament. The Northstars dropped the game, 8-4.

Nate Baltrusch went 2-for-3 from the plate and was the only Northstar to collect more than one hit in the game. He also had a double in the effort. Dan Danielson pitched 5 1/3 innings to collect the loss.

On Sunday, things brightened for Havre as they scattered 14 hits to down Shenurin Park, Alberta, 9-7. Baltrusch went 2-for-4 and scored one run. Brown went 2-for-2, scored two runs and collected two RBIs in the victory.

Jake Ingram also went 2-for-4 from the plate. Mace Mangold went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Jarrod Wirt pitched the win for the Northstars.

The Havre Northstars pounded out 30 hits and capitalized on 11 Sparkies errors as they swept a twinbill from the Great Falls A team Tuesday at Don Olson Field at Great Falls.

Jarrod Wirt and Ricky Brown each collected three hits to lead Havre to a 22-6 win in the opener.

Ryan Evans pitched a two-hitter in the second game, a 12-1 triumph in five innings.
