JAMES F. OLSON
James F. Olson, 66, died Monday, June 28, 1999, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church. Burial with Military honors will follow at the Highland Cemetery.
Olson was born Feb. 21, 1933, at Fosston, Minn. to Oliver and Minda Bjore Olson. He attended schools in Fosston, Minn. He moved to Montana in 1951, to work on farms along the Hi-Line. He was employed by the Great Northern Railroad.
In March of 1953, he was called to the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then returned to work for the railroad.
On May 15, 1955, he married Marian L. Nault in Havre. The couple resided in Havre. They moved to Alaska in 1964 and back to Havre in 1972. The past two years the couple have traveled to Yuma, Ariz. for the winter months.
In 1956, Olson started as an apprentice in the plumbing trade. He was employed by Jim Adams Plumbing and later by Nault Plumbing and Heating. While in Alaska he was employed in the plumbing business. Upon his return to Havre he was employed as a plumber and later as a brakeman for the Burlington Northern Railroad.
Olson was active in civic activities including the Jaycees and the Elks Lodge. He served as co-chairman for the 1962 Pioneer Multitennial. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as past Commander of Post #497, the Elks Lodge, serving as past Exalted Ruler of the Sitka, Alaska, Elks Lodge, and the Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Olson of Havre; sons, Alan Olson of Roundup, Richard Olson of Kennewick, Wash., and Kevin Olson of Havre; daughters, Mary Naber of Havre and Jodi Warneke of Great Falls; siblings, Orin Olson, O. Kent Olson, and Theda Olson all of Bagley, Minn., Mildred Myers of Richmond, Calif., and Phillip Olson of Columbia Falls; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Veterans Honor Guard in care of Havre Post #497, PO Box 497, Havre, MT 59501.
