FORT BELKNAP John Joseph Bear Sr., 35, died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at a Fort Belknap hospital of pulmonary embolus.
Wake and Rosary services will be 8 p.m. tonight at the Red Whip Community Center at Ft. Belknap. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Whip Center with burial in Hi-Way Church Cemetery.
Bear Sr. was born Sept. 29, 1963, at Ft. Belknap to Wallace and Marie (Nicholson) Bear. He was raised and educated at Ft. Belknap and was a football and basketball player for Harlem High School. He was employed as a ranch hand and in construction. He was also employed as a fire fighter.
In 1983 he married Romona Doll Doney.
Bear Sr. enjoyed keeping score for basketball games, fishing, camping, playing video games, Pow wows and being with his family. He also enjoyed watching the Super Bowl and going to Super Bowl parties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Doll; children, Tyrel Henry Bear, John Joseph Bear Jr. and Jona Jo Bear, all of Ft. Belknap; sisters, Georgina Weasel, Rosella Birdtail, Ethel Bear, Claudia King and Heather Fox, all of Ft. Belknap, Mary Jean Hirayama, Wallane Bear of Seattle, Mamee Bear of Billings and Audrey Moore of Harlem; brothers, Leon King of Hays, Elwood Brother Bear of Harlem, Joseph Bear of Ft. Belknap and Dusty Bear of Ronan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
