The city of Havres Department of Public Works announced that it will begin chip sealing over six miles of city streets beginning Thursday.
City Engineer Ron Bastin said that with oil process below $21 a barrel for the first time in years, now is the best time to begin sealing Havres streets. The process, which he explained as a coat of oil covered by gravel, cures to seal cracks and extend the life of the blacktop.
The project is expected to last until August 20, and the city is asking for the publics cooperation by moving vehicles when notified.
What well try to do is notify people by knocking on doors the day before, Bastin said. If no contact is made, vehicles will be towed so as not to interfere with the project.
Thursday, as the project begins, crews will be working on 13th Street, from Fifth Avenue to Monroe Avenue. Friday will involve 11th Street, from Wilson Avenue to First Avenue, and the downtown area will be completed over the weekend. People living or visiting these areas are advised to remove their vehicle from the streets. Vehicles not moved will be towed.
The city will post the specific days its crews will be working at the below locations.
