With the Northstars state championship and state softball games galore, a local one-pitch softball tournament fits into the scheme of things pretty well.
Students in Free Enterprise, or SIFE, a group at MSU-Northern that helps students interact with the community, will be holding its first-ever one-pitch softball tournament.
Were just looking for something different that would be fun, said Kyndra Moore, president of the group.
SIFE has been in existence at Northern for four years. Its main focus is enterprise education. About 25-30 people are involved with the association and five live in different towns. Those people are able to be in the chapter via NorthNet on the Internet.
The entry fees from the softball tournament will be used to help cover the cost of the group traveling to a presentation in Seattle.
Hopefully this will build up and bring in more people and towns, Moore said.
At the tournament, each batter steps to the plate with a 3-2 count.
They will either hit, walk or strike out, Moore said.
The entry fee is $75 with 50 percent of the fees going to cover prizes at the tournament and the other monies going to SIFE.
Six teams with an average of 12 players have already signed up to play. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, at 6th Avenue Field.
