LORETTA VAUGHN

Loretta Ann Vaughn, 78, long time Havre resident, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at a local care center of natural causes.

Vigil services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Robert D. Grosch officiating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.

Vaughn was born April 1, 1921, in Havre, to William and Mary (Ahle) Pearce. She attended St. Jude School and graduated from Havre High School. She was employed for Buttery Food after graduation as a clerk.

On Aug. 27, 1942, she married James Vaughn. The couple farmed north of Havre. He died in 1970. She continued to farm until 1976, when she moved to Havre. She moved to Chinook in 1980, where she started the Homestead Smorgasbord. She returned to Havre in 1992.

She enjoyed baking bread and cinnamon rolls, spending time with her grandchildren, making afghans, quilts and teddy bears, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Roger Edward, her parents, a sister and two brothers.

Survivors include daughters, Helen Heilig of Moore, Patricia Moore of Mooreville, Miss., Janice Whaley of Havre, Margaret Hanson of Choteau and Karen Olson of Havre; sons, Charles and William Vaughn of Havre and John Vaughn of Williston, N.D.; a brother, James Pearce of Buffalo, Wyo.; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude School.
