ALVIN (AL) RENTSCHLER

LEWISTOWN Alvin J. (Al) Rentschler, 87, of Billings and former Lewistown resident, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at a Billings hospital following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City Cemetery.

Rentschler was born Sept. 20, 1911, in New Orleans, La., to Michael and Catherine (Burns) Rentschler. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he received his education. He then became employed in the Los Angeles area.

On Sept. 18, 1932, he married Pauline E. Browning, in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple moved to Gildford in 1933, farming there until 1937 when they moved to Havre. He became employed for Railway Express Agency transferring to Lewistown in 1961. He retired in 1963. He later was employed as a custodian at Garfield Elementary School for three years.

The couple continued living in Lewistown at the Eagles Manor. She died in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers.

Survivors include a son, Alvin E. of Rochester, Minn.; daughters, Pat Redekopp of Billings and Doris Kent of Rochester, Minn.; sisters in-law, Pat Rentschler of Gardena, Calif. and Edith Lane of Hesperia, Calif.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Gideon International or the New Life Assembly of God Church of Lewistown. They may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.
