WOODWARD, Okla. Gerald A. Chirp Chvilicek, 56, a former Hingham resident, died of heart failure Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999 at his home in Woodward, Okla.

Cremation and memorial services were held in Woodward, Okla. Graveside prayers with burial of ashes will be held in the near future at the Hingham Cemetery.

He was born in Havre on June 7, 1943, the youngest of eight to Marian (Huestis) and John Chvilicek Sr. He grew up on the family farm north of Hingham and attended the Marianer Country School. The family moved to Havre and he finished his education there graduating from Havre Central High in 1961.

He worked in the Havre oil fields before moving to Alaska where he worked on the North Slope. In 1964 he transferred to Oklahoma where he lived and worked in the oil well servicing industry for the past 35 years.

In 1984, he married Sue Chvilicek. They later divorced.

His hobbies included hunting, gardening and yardwork. He enjoyed country western music and collecting coins. In recent years, he liked working with his computer. He loved animals and enjoyed the companionship of several pet dogs throughout the years.

Survivors include two brothers, Lawrence Chvilicek of Pendleton, Ore., and Robert Chvilicek of Tonopah, Nev.; a sister, Alice Langel of Rudyard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers including John, James, Leonard and Norbert.
