Blue Sky, 2-0, held Brady scoreless in the first half on the way to a 45-19 routing of the Bulldogs Wednesday.
Dain Petersen ran the ball in from the 35-yard line to get things started for the Eagles and put them up 8-0 at the end of one after a T.J. Iron Bear two-point kick. The Eagles scored twice in the second quarter as Jared Miller caught a two-yard pass from quarterback Joey Stuart. The next Blue Sky touchdown came as David Jurenka rumbled 37 yards for the score. Iron Bears kicked for one two-point try and threw a pass to Miller for the point after putting the Eagles on top 23-0 at the half.
Miller found himself in the end zone again in the third quarter when he and Stuart hooked up for the 50-yard strike. Brady scored their first points of the game before Justin Simenson got into the offense for Blue Sky and caught a four-yard pass from Stuart for the Eagles second touchdown of the third quarter. Brady scored twice in the fourth while Blue Sky found the end zone just once on a two-yard pass from Simenson to Keenan Toner.
Also Wednesday, the J-I Rams, 0-1, 1-1, welcomed Geyser back to football with a 91-44 beating. The game saw players in the end zone 20 times.
The Rams scored five times in the first quarter as Curtis May found the end zone twice and Eric Sundgren also found it twice. Each May and Sundgren scored on an offensive and a defensive possession as May returned an intercepted pass and Sundgren picked up a blocked punt.
Jeremy Myers also got into the action in the first quarter as he picked up a fumbled football and returned it four yards for the touchdown. J-I scored twice in the second, with Bryce Henke doing the honors on a three-yard run and then a 55-yard run. At the half the Rams led 48-31.
The third quarter was as kind as the first to J-I as the Rams found the end zone five more times. Sundgren and May both made it back in the end zone as did Jeff Bangs, twice, and Myers caught a 40-yard pass from Josh Lincoln. Bangs finished things off in the fourth as the Rams scored once on a three-yard run.
The Big Sandy Pioneers, 0-2, tried to spoil the Chester homecoming celebration on Friday night but the Coyotes, 2-0, scored twice in the fourth quarter to come out with the 30-14 win.
The Pioneers jumped out first on the defending state champions 6-0, after Daniel Weaver rumbled in from the seven-yard line. The Coyotes answered as Brian Schlepp caught a 26-yard pass from Jeff Graham. The Coyotes then took the lead in the first on a 10-yard run by Sean Weinert. The only score in the second quarter of the game also came from Weinert has he ran the football 48 yards and gave Chester an 18-6 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Big Sandy was the only team to find their way into the end zone as Seth Davidson ran the ball in from nine yards away. Davidson also ran for the two-point conversion pulling the Pioneers to within striking distance, 18-14, at the end of three.
But Chester showed their poise late in the fourth and scored twice as Graham hooked up with Weinert on a 25-yard passing play and then ran the ball 14 yards to put the Pioneers away.
We surprised a lot of people, said Big Sandy head coach Scott Chauvet, but we knew we had it in us.
The Pioneers rushed for over 220 yard against a good defense and Chauvet said he was very happy with the effort.
Even in the loss, Chauvet said the team will gain some confidence.
We knew the ball game was closer than 30-14, a couple different things and it would have been a different outcome.
Big Sandy travels 10 miles to Box Elder Saturday to face last years head Pioneer coach, Dave Nelson, and his new team at Box Elder.
Blue Sky collected a 43-7 win over the Augusta Elks Saturday.
The Eagles, 3-0, scored twice in the first quarter as Dain Peterson ran the ball in from the 12-yard line and David Jurenka rumbled in from 10 yards out. In the second, Blue Sky found the end zone just once as Jurenka caught a 12-yard pass from Joey Stuart. The Eagles then led at the half 22-0.
It was more Blue Sky in the second half as Peterson had runs of 12 and two yards to put the Eagles up 36-0 after three. Both teams scored once in the fourth quarter with Blue Sky's touchdown coming via a 65-yard kick off return by Stuart.
Box Elder, 0-1, fell to Centerville on Saturday 42-6.
Centerville scored once in the first and four times in the second en-route to a 36-0 halftime lead. The Bears only touchdown was in the third quarter as Jason Infante caught a 35-yard pass from Kenny Gardipee. Centerville also scored in the fourth to a game-winning 42-6.
Hays-Lodgepole, 0-2, scored three times, but it was not enough against Valier. The Panthers came out with the 62-18 win Saturday.
Neither team could get any points on the board in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds found the end zone in the second, third and fourth quarters. In the second, Casey Martin ran almost the distance of the field as he rumbled 72 yards for the score. In the third it was again Martin on a 45-yard run and in the fourth, again, Martin ran the distance as he took it in from 40 yards out for the score.
