Angel Trees have become a staple of Christmas giving in the Havre area in recent years.
One of many means the Community Christmas Project established for people to brighten the yuletide for the less fortunate is the Angel Tree. Now they can be set up anywhere by anyone.
If an Angel Tree sounds like too much work, set up a toy and gift drive instead.
To set an Angel Tree up at your business or agency, call The Salvation Army and offer to take Angel Tags as a mini Angel Tree project. The tags will bear the age, sex and sizes of a child and a few new clothing or new toy suggestions.
Hang the tags from your own angel tree for workers or customers to pick off and fill. The participants then make their purchases and bring the items back to angel tree with the tag attached.
People can be creative and invent their own ideas for office, business or organization toy and gift drives. Maybe they could ask people attending a get-together to bring a toy or gift as admission.
Community Christmas Project committee members urge everyone to put a "smile" on a face and brighten this holiday season for the less fortunate of our community. The toy and gift drive doesn't have to be geared strictly to children, either. Gifts can be purchased with an elder community member in mind or for a whole family to enjoy.
To get involved, call The Salvation Army at 265-6411 or stop by at 605 Second St. between 1 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and pick up Form D.
