The Havre Ice Hawks dropped their first game 6-3 to Medicine Hat Friday at the 1999 Bantam Can-Am Hockey Tournament held last weekend at the Havre Ice Dome.
Levi Briese scored the first goal for the Ice Hawks on an assist from Garrett Drake to even the score at 1-1 in the first period.
Down by one goal, Drake scored on an assist from Cory Stremcha to even the score at 2-2 with 12:16 remaining in the second period.
The final score for the Ice Hawks came in the third when Jon Johnstone smacked in a goal.
The Ice Hawks faced a little stiffer competition in their second game held Saturday.
The Medicine Hat Kings, who went on to win the championship game, routed the Ice Hawks 17-1 in game four of the tournament.
Johnstone had the only goal of the game, assisted by Tyson Roe.
In exhibition game for the bantam "B" squad, the Medicine Hat Sharks defeated the Ice Hawks 9-2.
Drake scored in the second period, assisted by Briese. Also in the second, Briese went on to score on an assist from Andy Meyers.
In their final game, in the Montana League Sunday, Billings defeated Havre 5-3.
The third period was the hot set of minutes, as Havre's Jeff Jones scored on an assist from Roe. But Billings exploded for four goals in the period en route to the win.
The championship game saw the two Medicine Hat teams in head-to-head competition.
The Kings defeated the Sharks 5-3 for the title.
In one of the most interesting games of the weekend, the Helena coach refused to resume play in the second period of play against the Sharks.
With 4:10 on the clock, the game was over, with the Sharks taking the 1-0 victory.
The Helena team had six penalties, including a bench order for the coach in the second period.
