The privilege of watching Havre High School's Senior Ball Grand March will cost parents and friends $1 this year. Seniors chose to collect the dollar this year in an effort to address the needs of domestic violence victims.
"It's for the domestic abuse program for their Christmas needs," senior advisor Karla Bolken said. "I think it was just a senior class decision. I don't know that it was any one person."
The Senior Ball is being held in the MSU-Northern Student Union Building Ballroom again this year. The Grand March will begin at 8 p.m. and the ball itself will get under way at about 9 p.m.
Bolken said people coming to the Senior Ball expecting to see something wintry and Christmasy in early December will be disappointed.
"The theme is Welcome to the Jungle, so there will be no Christmas trees," she said.
The cost for couples attending the ball is $20, but there is a way for them to get in at a discount price.
"They usually have the cost of the ticket for the ball at $20, and $18 if you bring two cans of food," Bolken said. "We always have that for the Food Bank."
A king and queen of the ball will be chosen by their peers during the ball.
"They just vote on it the night of the ball," Bolken said. "They don't really have nominations."
Everyone is invited to watch the grand entry with each dollar coming in for the domestic abuse victims' Christmas fund greatly appreciated.
