WAHPETON -- Reuben Benjamin Huss, 92, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at a Wahpeton care center.

Funeral services were held this morning at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton with the Rev. Randy Gehring officiating.

Huss was born Jan. 12, 1907, near Mooreton, to Ellef and Nanna (Nelson) Huss. He was baptized in January of 1907 and confirmed on Sept. 10, 1922, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Mooreton. He grew up and attended schools there until 1921, when he moved with his parents to Fergus Falls, Minn. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., in 1928. He received his master's degree from the University of Montana in Missoula. He began his teaching career in science, math and coaching at Parshall and later at Browning.

In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Wichita Falls, Texas. After officers training he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, and was assigned as a Traveling Instructor in Chemical Warfare. Upon returning home four years later he accepted a position at Havre High School in Chemistry and taught there until his retirement in 1972. He continued to teach as a substitute teacher for several years.

He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church of Havre and more recently of Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mabel Hektner and Esther Huss, and brothers, Lawrence, George, Leonard, Ernest, Irvin and Raymond.

Survivors include a sister, Olga Hektner, of Wahpeton; and many nieces and grand-nieces and nephews and grand-nephews.
