Bethany Keim, Alicia Rundquist, Joey Howland, and Mario Pizzini, the new swimmers on this year's Havre High School swim team, put together some good races at the Kalispell Invitational Saturday, said first-year head coach Chris O'Donnell.
The girls' team placed sixth at the meet with 80 points. The boys' team also placed sixth with 65 points, one spot better than last year's finish. Only 13 racers competed, due to the senior ball.
"I saw some of our new kids and they swam some really good races," O'Donnell said.
Howland finished 21st in the senior free style race with a time of 31.93.
Pizzini finished 13th in the senior 100 in a time of 1:21.38.
Keim finished 11th in the 200 free with a time of 2:37.67, and notched a 22nd place in the 50 free, clocking in at 33.00
Rundquist finished the 50 free in 46.00, good for 46th place.
"We have been working on the little aspects of our races, and we did really well half the time," O'Donnell said. "We need to work on doing it the right way the entire race. That's the difference between winning and losing most of the time."
The best finishes of the day came from Tyler Croft, who tallied a third-place mark in the 100 breast stroke. He finished the race in 1:07.22.
Emily Stuker also finished third in the women's 100 breast, clocking in at 1:19.81.
