Esther Edna Rueb Robertson, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sixth Avenue Christian Church. Interment will follow at the Hill County Cemetery. Reception will follow at the church.

Robertson was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Mound City, S.D., to John and Martha Rueb. After the death of her father in 1928, the family moved to Laredo. She grew up on the family farm there. She moved to Missoula in January of 1945, where she worked as a telephone operator. She returned and graduated from Box Elder High School in June of 1945. She later took a teachers training course at Northern Montana College. She started her teaching career at a small country school west of Laredo that fall.

In June of 1946, she married Kenneth Robertson. The couple lived in Arkansas and Utah until his discharge from the Army in 1947. They lived in Shelby and Big Sandy before moving to a farm west of Big Sandy in 1952. They farmed there until 1982. She returned to college in the late 1960s and graduated from Northern Montana College with a teaching degree. She taught at Pleasant View near Laredo, Midway school near Loma, Big Sandy Grade School, Nome, Alaska, Mill Iron, Cleveland and Zurich. After her retirement in 1991, the couple moved to Havre where they lived until October of 1999.

Robertson enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports. In her retirement she especially enjoyed skiing and running. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vonnie Spicher of Inverness.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Connie Myers of Ryder, N.D., and Kate Toyama of Liberty Lake, Wash.; a son, Randy Robertson of Billings; her nephew, whom they raised, Clyde Wall of Great Falls; and several grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
