Flying obituary

LODGE POLE -- Irving Flying, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.

Wake services will be held today at the Medicine Bear Lodge at Lodge Pole. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Medicine Bear Lodge with burial in the Big Warm Cemetery at Lodge Pole.

Flying was born Jan. 29, 1914, at Fort Belknap, to Mark Rex and Esther (Lemon) Flying. He was raised and attended school in Lodge Pole.

On April 10, 1930, he married Dora Thinker in Chinook. The couple resided in Lodge Pole. He worked as a rancher and was the first Tribal Police Officer to live in Lodge Pole. In 1968 the couple moved to Havre where they lived until moving to Fort Belknap in 1981.

Flying enjoyed riding horses and hunting.

Survivors include daughters, Olivia Stump of Havre, Roberta Big Knife and Margaret Piepot of Rocky Boy; a son, Duane Flying of Ft. Belknap; 43 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
