MARIANNE ASKVOLD
GLASGOW -- Marianne Ostlund Askvold, 90, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at a Glasgow hospital.
Visitation was held Monday at the Malta Lutheran Church. Services were held 2 p.m. today at the Malta Lutheran Church with burial at the Malta Cemetery.
Askvold was born Dec. 7, 1909, in Wessington, S.D., to S.M. and Helene Soennichsen. The family later moved to Whitewater. She attended school in Whitewater and high school in Saco where she worked for her room and board.
On Nov. 16, 1927, she married Levi Ostlund. The couple farmed in Whitewater until 1938, when they moved to the Milk River Valley west of Malta. They continued to farm there until his death in 1960. She cleaned homes in Malta for many years.
In 1965, she married John Askvold. The couple lived in Chester and then Havre until returning to Malta in 1998.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans which she gave as gifts. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a life member of the Federated Garden Clubs, belonging to the Chester club, the Malta Dirt Daubers and was instrumental in beginning the Havre club.
Survivors include her husband, John; a son, Edward Ostlund of Dodson; a daughter, Gladys Jacobson of Malta; a daughter-in-law, Gen Horne of Oregon; a sister, Leona Lukes of Great Falls; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a cousin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
